I think it's great to give detailed info on this topic. by giving web sites or pages it will let parents see all the stuff.

http://www.sawf.org/mezines/sunny/sunny.asp?sec=health&art=Liberalization&title=Liberalization

I wanted to say that there is this article talks about indian girls in India who want to look like kareena kapoor, aishwarya rai, models, and all in hindi cinema. many of the girls and young ladies are starving themselves and going to doctor's office to improve skin, lose weight like liposuction, and all that other stuff. i got a foward from a friend which provided a link only. i read the article. it didnt surprise me that girls wanted to look like them, but what struck me is the problems and stuff these girls did. girls in india think weighing 80-100 lbs is fit and healthy and find a person which higher weight than that unhealthy. over here in usa that's not the case with weight, many girls here are fit, healthy and all. but they want to look like girls in hindi films and all. many girls go a long way to look beautiful. they wear all this makeup, clothes, and all. girls in india and here are selfconscious for sure. it's sad to see girls giving dirty looks at one another, comparing themselves, having bf's just cause many have them and all. in mumbai girls are turning like girls in western countries in a way. it's just all sad to see that tv influences people and all. in the past evrything was fine now there's soo much to worry about. please read this article. educate others and see how cinema in india effects indian girls worldwide.

I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A FOLLOW-UP ARTICLE OF "CONFUSED DESI" BASED ON THESE POSTS. I HOPE SO. I AM HAPPY TO SEE THAT MANY PEOPLE SHARED THEIR VIEWS. I READ THE ARTICLE "CONFUSED DESI" AND IT EXACTLY POINTED OUT ISSUES AND ALL. I NEVER READ AN ARTICLE LIKE THIS OR SEEN PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT DESI YOUTH AND PARENTS LIKE THIS ARTICLE. I THINK THESE POSTS AND ARTCLE WILL "WAKE-UP" PEOPLE AND LET REALITY HIT HOME. IT'S ABOUT TIME I THINK BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. I HOPE A FOLLOW-UP ARTICLE WILL COME UP.

What is the Future of Religious Temples and Other Places of Worship is going to be like in the future in Usa, Canada, Europe and suchhuh? Some say many places of worship will close down or run unsucessful from the actions of todays youth. Many dont particiapte or have knowledge of religion. We dont have many people young who are prepared to run these places of worship like priests and all. .How will youth and future generations flourish and be sucessful in preserving religion, customs, values, places of worship, and activities that our parents do for us. Many people dont discover or see that this is a problem or concern. I hope this concern is read by all.

MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE THESE DAYS REGARDING EDUCATING PARENTS AND CHILDREN. IF PEOPLE IGNORE ISSUES OF ASIAN INDIAN IN USA, CANADA, AND OTHER COUNTRIES, MANY INDIVIDUALS WILL FIND THE ANSWERS THE HARD WAY. I THINK THAT MANY OF THE YOUTH OF INDIANS WILL DESTORY THEIR LIVES AND FAMILY THROUGH SOME OF THEIR BEHAVIOR. IN THE FUTURE YOU'LL SEE THAT. SAY 5-6 YEARS FROM NOW. DESI 'S WILL FACE HARD ISSUES AND ALL. THE ONLY GENERATION THAT WILL SHAPE UP WELL ARE THE YOUTH'S KIDS. THE YOUTH WILL LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES AND TEACH THEIR KIDS THE PROPER WAY TO LIVE. THEY WILL TEACH THE BEST WAY THE CAN CAUSE MANY YOUTH DONT KNOW MUCH LIKE THEIR PARENTS DO IN RELIGION, CUSTOMS, AND SUCH. I READ THE POSTS OF PARENTS AND YOUTH THAT ARE CONFUSED AND MANY IF NOT ALL POINTS ARE TRUE. WHAT CAN BE DONE MORE IS THE QUESTION huh huh huh huh sad cry cry

xx What can be done???

Dear Sweta,

A lot can be done and must be done.

1. Parents need to accept the fact that the current technique of parenting is not working,
You can not expect the parenting technique of 1970 in India to work in 2004 in USA!

2. Parents need to get more realistic picture of what exactly is going on with the youth today and not stay in a state of denial when it comes to their own kids.

3. We need to redefine as to what make a good Desi kid.

4. We need to emphasize honesty and openness in our families and realize the biggest villain in our life is double life by our kids.

5. "It takes a village to raise the kid"- we as a group need to address the issues of Dating, Pre-marital sex, Marriage out side one's cast, religion, region, nation or ethnicity.

6 We need to encourage not discourage male female interaction at early age of 14-16.

7, We need to redefine success as a parent. You are not a successful parent because your kid got into a good college or marries woman you like but you are a good parent when you did everything possible love and support him/ her.

8 We should never disown our kids. We do not own them so we can not disown them.

9. We need to stop being critical of all around us.

10. We need to use all big gatherings and convention to bring these issues to table and open dialogue with open mind. Just because parents were doing something back 30 years ago is not a good enough reason to propagate it.

11. We need to promote concept of "Born Again." I think you can be a born again good Desi, born again virgin, born again vegetarian, born again non alcoholic, born again nonsmoker, etc.

12. We need to come up with a game plan as to how to inculcate our values to new Desi by marriage (those who marry Desi boys or gals) because they are the parents of Desi grandchildren!

13. It is my feeling that once we the parents open up to the change the kids will automatically follow. Our Desi values are strong enough to bring them back.

I plan to hold seminar and workshop on these and may other such issues nationwide, record the discussion on a CD or DVD, distribute them to all the other areas to create a discussion, write about this issues on this website, invite others to express their ideas and solution.

Finally, I have full faith that our community is ready to receive a wake up call and we as a community will be able to change.

i am in nineth grade and i really didnt know much about nightlife of parties. though i hear some stuff from people after reading all this, i dont plan to attend one. some of my friends are soo caught up what others are doing, slowly i see some serious changes. two smoke since they like to impress these indian guyz at school. one thinks she's 19 years old and has a bf that's going in college of first yr. one wears all these revealing clothes at parties and formals. she dates like crazy. her parents don't care about her and all.

i got 4 friends that are real nice and like me. we don't like to smoke, do drugs, drinks, we don't date or plan to til 23. we study hard, do chores, and activities and hang out. i am learning slowly through others and my experience with my troubled friends the reality of life. my cousin whose in college says she didn't have all this stuff going on with people like drinking and stuff when she was my age. it happened but rare.

she told me stick with the right people and follow your head to lead you the right way. she told me good values, family, education, friends, and many other things helps you alot and builds your character. she told me many peers are just doing this for the short run to impress people they know at school, parties, and people they don't know. they just want to be popular. it's not worth it she says, she told me be happy with myself. all these things are never or rarely mentioned like clubbing, drinking, smoking, bad friends, and stuff. more needs to be said, to help us young teenagers out, cause we seriously are surrounded by peer pressure and stuff.

i came here several weeks ago and i told parents should read the article and views.
the only thing that i'm little bit disappointed is that not many viewers post views and it seems like the director and under 10 viewers have made comments. in this section.
more viewers are needed and that is very valuable information.
all these viewers who share ideas and concerns are talking about issues that are kept secret or hidden.
i think many viewers should come and discuss.
maybe not many people know about the forums, but it should be known
as far as regular viewers share and talk to your friends and people you know and tell them about joining these forums.
many questions can be answered. it is a forum for everyone. alot of topics and views

Thank you Nisha, I think it would be wonderful if more people would not only point out the problem as they see it but what is their proposed solution? It helps if people identify themselves with name, age, location and what kind of background they are coming from. We should be proud to put our name next to our brain child. You can even post your picture when you register for the site.

This forum is meant for everyone to express their views and at the same time react to the ideas of others. Our community is facing a big challenge to adapt in the new enviornment, This global meeting of Desi minds can solve any problem!

On a positive note the traffice to this site has increased tremendously and with every presentation I make across this country we are likely to get more participants. smiley

If you do not know how to post your views you may simply email it to me at VijayVIP@yahoo.com and I shall be happy to post it,

Please ask your friends to come and participate.
