Bhangra and Bone Marrow at Bayou Bhangra

It was a hot and muggy afternoon at the park next to Cullen Auditorium. Because of miscommunication we had two teams of bone marrow staff at hand instead of one. So many of the students had already registered at previous drives. But, there was excitement. Megan Jacob was there along with her family and friends to spread the word. People lined up at both the stations and more than 100 registerd at the park.
And kudos to the organizers, people were eager to enjoy the Jazzy B's music but they found time for us to make the announcement about Bone Marrow Registry and Megan had a chance to appeal to the audience. So many people came up to me at the end of the program wanting to oranize a bone marrow drive! No one complained about the fact that we inserted the bone marrow message in between the competition and Jazzy B!
As one of the organizers aptly put it, " Vijay Uncle, Bayou Bhangra is more than a competition, dance, music and partying it is about addressing the issues facing our community. If someone registered today donates 40 years from now to save someone else's life this competition would be a grand success!
Congratulations to all the volunteers for organizing such a wonderful event!
