Ask Dr. Phil
When: Sunday, 9:30 to 11:30 AM Where: Holiday Inn Ball Room What: An open forum type of show with discussion surrounding our families. Who: Everyone interested in dynamics between parents and next generation.
We do not have Dr. Phil but we have Vijay uncle and Mukesh uncle! In our families it is too much involvement of parents and loved ones may be detrimental to us. How can one argue with too much of love? All adult relationships need to be negotiated. Our inability to readjust creates feeling in many Jain youth that my parents will never understand. On the other hand parents have no clue as to how much damage they may be causing due to their non negotiable positions from 1970ís back in India.
We have some real life examples of how changing attitude among parents can make a big difference. If you have any issues you would like to bring up please contact us any time. The time has come for us as a community to be willing to learn to think out of the box and focus on long term reward than short term pain.
Even though the session is aimed at parents, we are not going to exclude any young ones. Feel free to join in. If you have any word of advice to desi parents in general let us know. This is your chance to tell our generation where we can do better.
What we do not acknowledge we can never fix. Let us get real. Let us ask how is it working for you?
