Fighting the two battles
Post by Vijay Mehta on Oct 9th, 2008, 2:53pm

I'm a 23 Desi girl who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since I'm doing chemo now, my hair is falling out. I should be at the prime of my life, meeting new people, and getting to know nice guys. But I just feel unattractive and undesirable. Even my best friend that I have been crushing on for several years has made it clear that we are just platonic friends. To make matters worse, my mom has gone completely bio-data crazy. She has hired an old matchmaker to set up phone conversations with young eligible bachelors who I am forced to talk to. Dealing with cancer, the pressure of my mother, the feeling of never finding someone that compares to my best friend is almost more than one girl can take. I want to find love, but how will I do it? - Fighting the two battles.

Dear Fighting the two battles,

I am sorry to hear that you are facing such a serious health issue. Just the news such as this and the treatment that comes along with it takes a heavy toll on your physical, mental and sometimes spiritual stamina.
Right now is not a good time to look for the love of your life. In a year or two, you will be in a much better situation to deal with the stress and strain that goes along with a relationship.

Your mom needs to stop putting pressure on you. Our top priority right now is your health. New relationships are very demanding and this is not the time.

At present you need to be surrounded by a lot of supportive friends. The good news is that with the current treatment, many breast cancer patients go on to live a normal life. Hair will come back and so will the glow. That will be the right time to get the right guy, not now. Good luck. - Vijay Uncle
